Description:
Warzone 2100 is an open-source, 3D real-time strategy (RTS) game set in the not-so-near future in a post-apocalyptic world. The game includes interesting features such as a full 3D environment, ability to design and customize units, a control-based resource scheme and a different take on map design.
The interface is quite different than other real-time strategy games like Bos Wars. The control seems more centralized, with panels accessing your various buildings so that you don't have to spend much time looking at your base in order to click the buildings. In fact, your base could be spread out over the map and be nearly as easy to manage.
The campaign is the most interesting part. You begin by building a small base in a map, and as you complete objectives, the map expands. After the first map has expanded to it's full, you will then receive objectives in other maps and can transfer units (even workers) to the other maps to complete these objectives.
The game is well done, the tutorial is a little less complete than we would like but covers most of what we would expect it to do. The graphics are one thing that could use improvement, the maximum resolution (that we could discover) is 640x480 - despite the game being fully 3D. If you don't mind the pixelated graphics (did you enjoy the original Command and Conquer?) and enjoy a good strategy game, then this one is for you.

I really really liked this game. I found that the learning curve was more a gentle gradient than a curve, which is nice for me as i dont like to be thrown into things to quickly. Especially when it comes to strategy. I felt that the graphics, although not up to the modern day latest cutting edge, were functional clean, and looked nice, which helps to keep the frame rate up. There is a nice variety of units and buildings to keep you occupied and the sounds are well thought out. The only thing i can think to really make this better is a slightly more polished HUD, as i think that this is the one thing that this game lacks. But other than that, a nice enjoyable RTS.
